Elegant wedding at Bishop’s Lodge Auberge Santa Fe

There is just something about summer love. Shelby and Darrek both grew up and live in Texas but they spent much of their childhood visiting New Mexico’s  in the summer and skiing its mountains in the winter so it made the perfect backdrop for their elegant wedding in Santa Fe.

“Santa Fe is a very special place to both of us and our families. Growing up in Texas, Santa Fe was a short drive away. It has always been a short drive but a far away feeling place. We are looking forward to spending our anniversaries there in the years to come. ”  ~Shelby, Bride

This star crossed pair is the true definition of love will find a way. Shelby + Darrek met in Spanish class at 15 and quickly became good friends. Unfortunately, life stepped in and Shelby soon transferred schools. The pair did not meet up again until both were home on spring break from college. The on again off again romance that followed spanned years of different colleges and cities. After 4 years living in New York City, Shelby decided to move back to Austin Texas. Derrek was also living at the time. Fate finally decided it was time for these two and their love found it’s home. The trials were not over though as Shelby was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 24 years old.

“I would not let diabetes keep me from doing things I wanted to do. Running the NYC marathon allowed me to prove to myself that I am in control of my body and that I will not let diabetes win.” ~Shelby, Bride

Stronger together, Derrek was there every step of the way. He would meet up with her and run some of the long training runs with her. He encouraged her throughout all the training and on the day of the marathon. Just one year later, on a trip to Santa Fe, Derrek proposed.

The newly renovated Bishops Lodge Auberge was the perfect mix of historic adobe and timeless elegance for their classic black tie wedding. Lela Rose Bridal matched Shelby’s minimalistic style perfectly with a simple strapless wedding dress complete with subtle floral embellishments. All tied together by Sarabeth Events with dreamy florals and signature cocktails, it was a Santa Fe wedding weekend we will not soon forget!

BEHIND THE LENS

About Coryn

I have been enamored by photography since the first time I stepped into a dark room and the world opened up to me. From that day to this one now, I have been a chaser of light.

I am an East Coast girl currently living in the heart of the Southwest. I miss grass and rivers, but I have to admit the desert glow is something that is incomparable. I like Sundays. I am quite obviously a redhead and easily fall into every stereotype that surrounds the trait. Flowers make me smile. So does coffee. I live to create. I have two crazy kids and an amazing husband that above all else are my "why?".

I've had a very eclectic career that has led me all over the world and back home again. I am most at ease with a camera in my hand and sunshine at my back. Above all, I believe memories are worth capturing.
